That depends on the OS.
Gfmd itself doesn't have any limit.

I don't think such configuration is really usable for now.
There are several problems.
For example
- Currently, gfmd loads metadata only at its startup time.
  So, you cannot configure secondary gfmd as a hot-stanby.
- All file-opening information will be lost.
etc.

IMHO, more work is needed for such area.
